Papa Rhein Hotel Bingen

Hotel locking system: Off to new shores

A visit to Bingen am Rhein, Germany, is always worth the trip. The Papa Rhein Hotel offers yet another top destination in a beautiful provincial town that is steeped in history and also the gateway to the Upper Middle Rhine Valley World Heritage Site. The new hotel was completed during the coronavirus pandemic – in itself a testament to the owners’ boldness – and finally opened to guests for the first time on 31 July 2020. The list of prominent visitors has already included Minister President of Rhineland-Palatinate Malu Dreyer and singer Stefanie Heinzmann. A shared journey into the future: SAG Smart Access.

Success story Papa Rhein –
electronic locking systems in the hotel.

But the success story of the Bolland family business begins earlier … much, much earlier: Back in 1907, Papa Rhein operator Jan Bolland’s great grandfather inaugurated his first hotel. The Bollands have now been successful hospitality operators for four generations and in four destinations under the umbrella of ‘Heimatzeit Hotels’. PAPA RHEIN Hotel & Spa, the group’s newest concept, is distinguished by its unique features and lovingly designed details.

Its extravagant vintage design, the fabulous cuisine that is the hallmark of all the Bollands’ Heimatzeit hotels, an excellent spa area, chic and modern rooms and a variety of excursion options in the surrounding area make this hotel a very special location. It transforms the popular wine and castle region from an attraction that has traditionally been popular with older people into a hip destination for a completely different target group. Best of all, it is just a short distance from the banks of the Rhine and its old winter harbour. To match the overall theme, the rooms on the various ‘decks’ are designated as bunks and suites.

What makes them so special? Each of the seven suites exudes a completely unique flair, as their entire interior design follows a particular theme which was coordinated with the help of various sponsors. For example, for a sophisticated men’s night out, there is a suite named ‘Cheers by Kuehn Kunz Rosen’, which was designed in collaboration with the eponymous brewery. Of course, the room is equipped with its own beer tap! For the most discerning travellers, the Papa Rhein hotel also offers suites that have been styled down to the last detail by interior decorators and designer furniture manufacturers. Such as the ‘Zeilensprung Suite by Bretz’ room, which offers a level of comfort equal to that of your own home. In essence, it is the perfect environment for a product that is as high-quality as it is design-conscious, like the SAFE‑O‑TRONIC access® by SAG. The smart solutions make the guests’ stay even more pleasant. The hotel locking systems, for example, are generally controlled via pin codes or also via key cards, e.g. with RFID chips. The locking systems regulate access control without any problems and ensure security.

Hotel locking system:
The perfect locking solution for discerning guests

SAG’s design-award-winning electronic locking system blends in harmoniously with the elegantly furnished ambience of this unique hotel. Based not least on his positive experiences with the hotel locking system in his other hotel, Managing Director Jan Bolland’s decision to use SAG technology again was only logical. In addition to the design requirements, the technical specifications for the locking system were simple but uncompromising: The best hinges and hardware available, paired with a unique range of functions, flexibility, access control, security and future viability. Access and entry needed to be as reliable as they were uncomplicated and well organised for guests and staff.

Don’t lock
out the future!

‘From our point of view,’ says Jan Bolland, ‘the combination of key card and PIN code is particularly attractive. It allows us to give our guests access to their rooms without staff assistance – 24/7.’ The traditional hotel has already had good experiences with SAG’s ‘Temporary Guest Code’ function. Late arrivals use this option to gain access to the building and the hotel room via the PIN code provided in advance. It is completely contactless and does not require staff assistance. The PIN code can be transmitted to the guest’s device as soon as the room is booked. This code is valid for the duration of their stay and works on all doors that have been enabled for the guest in advance based on their stay. A system that scores with all-round access control. The option of RFID cards is still available and is also used by housekeeping and other staff (learn more about unique door locks here).

Even more advantages: Offers such as the ‘24-h Trust Bar’, where guests can help themselves to snacks and drinks of all kinds around the clock, are ideal for use with the SAFE‑O‑TRONIC® access lock. Lock Manager, the software for the locking system, makes it possible to track at any time when and with which room card the Trust Bar was entered.

Contactless access
at any time

The room cards for the 114 SAFE‑O‑TRONIC® access DS door handles with do-not-disturb function are created by the reception staff – and it’s quick and easy. Access data is transferred to the locking medium – in this case the key card – for the individually specified booking period. The electronic locking system is integrated via the hotel software Protel. Night entrances are also hosted and monitored via a SAFE‑O‑TRONIC® access TS terminal solution – online or offline. Of course, you can also operate them with a PIN code. The lockers in the spa area are fitted with another seventeen PIN code-operated SAFE‑O‑TRONIC® access LS cabinet locking systems. Some functional rooms are also equipped with the SAFE‑O‑TRONIC® access CS electronic cylinder lock for flexible and secure access.

‘This locking system fits in beautifully with everything we based our concept for this hotel on and built into it: the perfect combination of design and functionality. Convenient handling, flexible operating options and, last but not least, solid craftsmanship boost confidence and perfectly round out the image of our feel-good hotel,’ says Jan Bolland.
